Together, we create great things.

BSS is more than just a supplier

The company which now operates under the name H. Cegielski-Poznań SA (HCP) was founded by Hipolit Cegielski.

BRAND HISTORY

Back to 1846

The company which now operates under the name H. Cegielski-Poznań SA (HCP) was founded by Hipolit Cegielski.

In the beginning the factory produced tools and agricultural machinery as well as tooling for the food processing industry, sugar factories, distilleries, etc.

Interwar Period
After Poland regained its independence in 1918, the production of rolling stock, including locomotives and rail cars began.

In the 1950's and 1960’s

In 1956 the company purchased from the Swiss company Sulzer Brothers Ltd a license to build 2-stroke low-speed marine diesel engines. In 1959, another license for these engines was bought this time from the Danish company Burmeister & Wain.

In 1960, the Minister of Heavy Industry decided to build a new factory in HCP, which was to produce medium speed diesel engines to marine generating sets, locomotives and small vessels. After this decision was implemented on 01.05.1963 a new organizational unit ZPM H. Cegielski was created under the name „Fabryka Silników Agregatowych i Trakcyjnych” (W9 Factory). Launch of production and recruitment started on 01.10.1963. The production included 4-stroke diesel engines for use in marine and stationary generating sets, and rail traction engines.

In 1999

As a result of organizational changes in H. Cegielski-Poznań SA on 01.01.1999 H.Cegielski – Diesel Engines and Generating Sets Factory (in short: FSA from Fabryka Silników Agregatowych i Trakcyjnych – H.Cegielski) came into being as a subsidiary of HCP SA.

FSA H.Cegielski  was established on the basis of W9 factory in H.Cegielski – Poznań SA and took over the whole of its manufacturing and service activities in the scope of 4-stroke diesel and gas engines.

Sulzer brand was founded by Salomon Sulzer-Bernet in 1775 and in 1834 established as Sulzer Brothers Ltd. (Gebrüder Sulzer). The headquarters was located in Winterthur, Switzerland. Their first diesel engine, built in 1898, was a vertical four-stroke engine with blast-air fuel injection. In 1905 the first reversing 2-stroke marine engine was invented. It led the way to the first valveless 2-stroke engines.

21st century

On December 29, 2011, H. Cegielski – Diesel Engines and Generating Sets Factory was privatized.

The long-standing and growing business between FSA H.Cegielski and BSS resulted in the signing of the LOA in 2019.
